About me

Louise Reflexologist
“I was initially sceptical about the claims & benefits of reflexology - then I got a reflexology treatment from Louise. I'm not sure what left faster, my stress or my doubt. I was genuinely impressed, and a strong recommendation from me! Bryden

Louise works at St Columba's Hospice providing Reflexology and complementary therapy to patients and carers. She also offers reflexology treaments to private clients from the Portobello Health Hub on Fridays.

Initially qualified and working as a teacher, Louise saw many benefits that baby massage provided for herself and her children, so she went on to qualify as an Infant Massage Instructor with Hands on Babies (certified by the Royal College of Midwives; and accredited by the Complementary Therapists Association.) Working across South London she ran baby massage classes for local businesses. Already qualified as a massage therapist this was a natural extension of her passion.

In 2018 Louise launched Tiny Touch Massage in Edinburgh to help parents and babies feel supported and nurtured in the early parenting days – running both 5-week courses and private sessions. They focussed on positive touch & communication - developing valuable skills for life and building strong secure attachments for the future.

Her passion for reflexology led her to complete a level 5 diploma in Clinical Reflexology - the highest reflexology qualification in the UK. She is incredibly priviledged to use these skills within a hospice and for private clients.

Louise is passionate about a holistic approach towards health and wellbeing and has both personally and professionally seen the many benefits that reflexology can provide - reducing stress related conditions and fatigue, improving sleep, reducing anxiety, easing headaches and much more.

Reflexology

Benefits

Reflexology is a specialised massage of the 7,000+ nerve endings on your feet and reflex areas, to bring about a state of deep relaxation and to stimulate the body's own healing processes. Since your feet are constantly under pressure the process is deeply soothing, independent of any other positive benefits. However, some of the most well-supported benefits are:

  • Boosted energy levels - a study published in the European Journal of General Practice shows that reflexology can boost your metabolic rate and help your body’s energy-creation processes.

  • Increased circulation - compelling research shows increased circulation, helping your organs to get the required nutrients and oxygen (thereby boosting functionality.)

  • Relaxation - an obvious benefit for anyone, but particularly for those who struggle to get restful sleep, perhaps through a chronic pain condition or anxious thoughts.

  • Headache reduction - many studies on reflexology and pain focus on headaches and have shown benefits. However there’s also good reason to believe that a they help with any muscle tension, which may minimise the need to use painkillers.

  • Supporting cancer and other medical treatment - there is no evidence of reflexology as a cancer treatment, however it is the most common complementary therapy chosen in the UK. And a 2011 review of 23 studies showed that reflexology can have some positive effects for people with cancer, diabetes, premenstrual syndrome, multiple sclerosis, an overactive bladder, and dementia.

  • Eliminating toxins - some promising research demonstrates a link with better bladder function and a reduction in chronic urinary tract problems. This potentially points towards reflexology has a wider positive influence on the body’s ability to process and excrete toxic material.
